HERE YE, HERE YE!! THE BEAF LIVESTREAM ANIMATION FEST HAS RETURNED IN MICRO FASHION!!!

...well, not so much haha! what started as an idea for a tinier BEAF event just kinda naturally became nearly twice as big as the original BEAF O_O ! yowza! the concept for the MicroBEAF was to just put on a BEAF event to celebrate all the latest toons for the community members while also adhering to the BEAF's original rules of having completely free and open submissions for any and all animators who may be interested. the MicroBEAF ended up featuring 58 animators, surpassing BEAF2023 which featured 38 animators. this event is now retroactively the MicroBEAF ironically!

this was also the first BEAF with a theme, the theme being animals!. this was originally offhandedly said as a joke by BEAFfriend Pepsi Purgatory, but i just rolled with it lolol. there was an open submission for any animator to animate an animal scampering across the screen, and 10 different animators ended up heeding the call :]! cool! there was an animal safari hunt game included in the program guide wherein viewers were encouraged to try and snap a pic of every animal and submit their completed Pokedex of screenshots to the BEAF in DMs to recieve a special reward (nobody ended up completing this tho, i was gonna mail them fun binoculars u_u).

MicroBEAF ended up being our most ambitious BEAF undertaking yet and it was created and completed in the span of 2 and a half weeks! holy smokes won't be doing that again haha!

for archival reference, here were the submission guidelines:

#1. there should be no arbitrary or distasteful use of racial, homophobic, or ableist slurs. likewise, there should be no generally tasteless racism, homophobia, ableism, or sexism.

#2. no excessively sexual or fetishistic content allowed. general 18+ sexual content is heavily discouraged, but if you choose to include it, be modest with it please. i happily encourage the creation of body positive or sex positive media dont get me wrong, however this film festival has no hard age limit and i would like to be inclusive to young animators and young animation enthusiasts.

#3. excessively graphic gore is heavily discouraged. themes of violence and horror elements are permitted, but be careful about how gruesome you may decide to go with it if you wish for the film to be in the festival.

#4. any content that is deemed potentially triggering will be mentioned in a content warning at the beginning of the film, regardless of if it may be a spoiler or not. however the contents of the content warning will need the approval of both the review committee (its literally just me, calm tf down bentl) and the original creator.

#5. the event will be streamed at 24fps and in 1920x1080 dimensions. you are absolutely allowed to submit videos that don't align with that format, but just know that if your video doesn't abide by that formatting, it may appear slightly distorted during the screening!

#6. copyrighted music is permitted, however it may be subject to being muted in the stream reupload so the full stream isn't blocked.

#7. the deadline for submissions is May 11th @ 11:59 PM CST. films submitted after this time and before May 16th @ 11:59 PM CST will be considered for screening if there is available time (first come first serve) but cannot be considered for an interview. films submitted after this time are not elidgable to appear in the festival T_T.
